Last Thanksgiving we started a new tradition and will be serving a Thanksgiving dinner in honor of our mother, grandmother, sister wife and friend Pat Barad, in conjunction with the Don Bosco Community Center in Portchester. Don Bosco has served the immigrant community since 1928 including 500 children year round at the Don Bosco Boys and Girls Club and 35,000 meals annually at the Soup Kitchen/Food Pantry.

Thanksgivings at our house growing up were special. Our home was open to anyone who had no place to go. We had people new to America who didn’t speak a word of English, young baseball players just starting a new career and away from family and others that just had no place to be that particular year. Mom loved holidays very much, probably because it brought her two favorite things together family and food. So providing a holiday dinner and giving back was an obvious choice to honor her amazing life.

Our mom’s family in Canada was always important to her. She loved them all very much. Our cousin, her nephew Jordan (a renowned chef) will be coming in to lead the kitchen.

We are reaching out to our family, friends and community for support, both with donations and volunteering on that day. We will all get a lot out of being together and helping others. Below is a link to make donations which will go towards purchasing all the food and supplies for Thanksgiving. Any remaining money will go to support the ongoing efforts of the community center to feed people in need.

We will need volunteers to set up and prepare prior to the meal and to serve and clean up during and after the meal. As such, the link above has shifts. Come help for as long or short as you can. It will be a great day for all who will be there, both attendees and volunteers.

Happy Holidays and Thanks for the Support
